What is Candida Albicans?
Candida Albicans is a parasitic yeast like fungus that lives in the gut. It often establishes in infancy through finger-to-mouth contact or from a mother during birth or breastfeeding. It usually coexists harmlessly with 'good' bacteria in the gut. Issues arise when 'good' bacteria are reduced by the over use of prescribed medication and a very sugar/ carb rich western diet, enabling overgrowth of 'bad' Candida."

Stress and Candida
If you’ve suffered with prolonged stress the hormone adrenaline, which is a blood sugar, also feeds the Candida. When your adrenaline supply is exhausted it’s replaced with the hormone cortisol which takes over in cases of prolongs stress and is also a blood sugar.
When does Candida become Candidiasis?
Candida Albicans is a common gut fungus which exhibits a remarkable ability to transform into a mycelia form which is able to breach the gut wall with its root like tentacles allowing Candida to enter the bloodstream. This shift leads to Candidiasis, a systemic condition affecting multiple bodily systems. Furthermore, the tiny opening caused by Candida allows particles of food and faeces to pass into the bloodstream causing food intolerances, allergies and a host of other symptoms and illnesses. When the gut and bloodstream are compromised in this way the Doctors refer to it as Gut Dysbiosis or Leaky Gut syndrome.
Candidiasis's impact on our health is diverse, affecting organs and systems, potentially leading to prolonged medication or surgery and ongoing health problems. With the overuse of both prescription and over the counter medication, alongside our high sugar/carb western diet it is believed that up to one in three individuals may unknowingly have this condition.
How do you get an overgrowth of Candida?
The conventional medical approach involving antibiotics, painkillers, and anti-inflammatory medications is undergoing a re-evaluation due to emerging insights. While these treatments have long been relied upon, recent revelations underscore the harm stemming from antibiotics' overuse. The term "antibiotic," translating to "anti life" in Latin, illustrates its function of eradicating various organisms. The prevalent prescription of broad-spectrum antibiotics over the past 40 years has inadvertently disrupted the balance of beneficial bacteria, permitting the overgrowth of Candida and subsequent health issues. A significant concern is antibiotics' non-discriminatory impact, eliminating both helpful and harmful bacteria. Reflecting on cumulative antibiotic use from childhood onwards, it's concerning to realise the potential damage inflicted on essential gut bacteria vital for immune defence and gut integrity.
Beyond antibiotics, similar worries extend to over-the-counter and prescribed medications like NSAIDs (e.g., Naproxen, Ibuprofen, Co-Codamol, Codeine) and hormonal treatments (e.g., contraceptives, HRT rich in oestrogen). Our digestive systems evolved to process natural foods like nuts, fruits, vegetables, and fats and proteins, not the potent synthetic compounds found in drugs. It’s sometimes difficult to assess exactly how many courses of these kinds of drugs we have taken given the everyday use for migraine, period pain, sports injuries, car accidents, toothaches and dental work, minor and major surgical procedures, skin infections, urinary tract infections. Even as a child we were exposed through ear infections, chest infections, sore throats and colds and flu.
